k_michael
What's the difference between theses 2 ? Both are transceivers. Only thing I can see is more of a channel selection on the MultiMAX and a difference in distance.
howard_m
the Flex series allows you to have intelligent TTL metering to the flash units like the Nikon or Canon systems. Teh Max and other PW units are simple manual triggers.
pete_s.
Big difference actually.

Somewhat simplified is the Multimax better when you want to be able to turn on and of groups of strobes very easily, for sportshooters triggering remote cameras, for those that don't use Canon/Nikon or don't need TTL capability and for those that require reliable triggering over long distances. The Flex is better for those that want to trigger their Nikon or Canon speedlights or are shooting Canikon and want to push the flash sync speed using strobes (aka hypersync).

The Plus 2 pocketwizard is a simplified version of the Multimax so that may also be an option. It is also possible to use a combination of different Pocketwizards since they are compatible. IMHO, the big drawback with the Flex and TT1 units is that you need to hook them up to a computer to change settings.

frank_skomial
"with the Flex and TT1 units is that you need to hook them up to a computer to change settings." - the reason is that Pocket Wizard continues to refine the TT1/TT5 flex system (PW), and provides frequent firmware updates, in hope to achieve the listed specifications that are more of a wish list, or ultimate list of features yet to get realized.
Canon's version of PW seems to be more successful. Nikon's version needs upgrades, and hopes that users would settle for some working limitted set of features. PW system is not CLS compatible, even though uses CLS flashes in the iTTL mode, and uses Nikon FP for their HyperSync.

Saying " have intelligent TTL metering to the flash units like the Nikon" is not correct, since the multiple flash exposure determination is completely different for PW and for CLS.
