cg
I just got my Maxwell HiLux split/rangefinder screen today and it was worth the wait. The Maxwell screen is equal in brightness to the Acute Matte D but better. The image produced by the Maxwell screen is very life-like with excellent color and higher contrast than the Acute Matte D. Thanks to all the photo.net posters who influenced my decision to get this screen.
andreatau
Hi, right post at the right time: I am thinking of buying this focusing screen as well for my 500cm. May I ask you where you found it and whether it was expensive? Thanks Andrea
paulrumohr
I agree. I just purchased Maxwell Screens for both my Hassy and 4X5. $185 for one and $195 for the other. There is something about them that let you really see things coming in and out of focus. Bill puts some kind of "tooth" on his screens that the acute matt doesn't seem to have. Both of my screens are Matt focus with no aids. I still lock on focus very easily, even in very very dim light. The only caveat on the Hassy screens would be their delicate nature. On the 4X5, the screen is covered with glass and protected. I use a WL with the Hassy, and if any dirt or grit gets on the screen, I have to blow it off with air because the top of the screen is acrylic and not covered with glass. Bill warns that even a microfiber cloth is like sandpaper to his focusing screens. If you are using a prism, there shoudn't be a problem. Even with this, it is an excellent, excellent buy. The only way to contact Bill Maxwell is to call him (404) 244-0095.
christian deichert
Chris, glad you had a good experience with Bill. You have got to love that guy and his products. How long did he talk to you on the phone before you actually got your order in? :)
cg
Maxwell Precision Optics now has email: maxwellprecisionoptics@toast.net or maxwellprecisionoptics@yahoo.com Maybe one day if we're lucky he'll have a website. I find that it's best to give Bill a call and he will be more than willing to answer all your questions about his screens or life in general. jeffrey_krenzel5
Great screens, but under no circumstances ask him about his divorce! He'll tell you.
