rcoop
I can't figure this out.
I have a nikkor 28-70mm 3.5 zoom lens. I've had it for 7 years. It's always worked great on my dslr and film slr's.
This started happening recently, where it either won't autofocus or the autofocus is off slightly. If I zoom way out then it will focus correctly, but if I start to zoom in it will not focus. I thought it might be because there was not enough contrast in the image, but that wasn't the case. This can happen on bright sunny days as well.
I have 2 dslr's and it happens on both of them. I get the same results on a film camera also. Even in manual mode I can't get it to focus properly. I have cleaned the contacts so I know that is not the problem.
I love this lens alot. Do you think Nikon can do anything for me or do I use it as a paper weight?

thx,

rudy

robert_hooper1
Send the lens in to Nikon for an evaluation. Depending on their estimate, you can decide whether to use it for a paper weight or not.
jon_porter2
That's an excellent lens but it's not worth repairing. You can pick up another one on eBay for well under $100.
wpahnelas
Ditto Jon porter. It's a decent lens, but can be had for a song. Just get another one.
