Band asked me to shoot. Cover price?

Recommended Posts

Only ever done paid with with horses.. I covered a friend's band the other night (first time shooting in these conditions/music/people), now I'm being recruited to do more by other local bands.
Suggestions for how to do this would be great.

Your link points to unavailable content. What is the image you attached to this thread telling us? It appears to be someone drinking something.

The point is: you need to be a lot clearer about what you're actually asking. When you ask for "suggestions how to do this," are you talking about the contracts? Lighting? Marketing for more such work? What part is it you're asking about?

......wonders why musicians usually look so scruffy and homeless looking ? This guy, above , even has a shirt saying DEAF on it.......one to avoid perhaps?

Yet some musicians look elegant enough.....Robert

00Z167-378119584.jpg.bcadbeb90cc5d351da1ed7346e38cf2b.jpg

Well, my sincere apologies for not being clear enough. What I'm asking is how much to charge the band for the shoot, as I am unsure, I shoot horses for people, not people for people.
As for the link, I'm unsure why it isn't working, it's an open album.
Here, actual muso photo's.

You did awesome! I just shot a Kutless concert. I don't know how to answer this question but from the quality of the photos you did pretty incredible. I'd take your time there into consideration. If you have a sitting fee or a location fee maybe you can play off those hours. If they are looking for photos for their site, maybe charge them by photo. Jenn xx

I'm unsure what they want the shots for. Likely bio's, website use, Facebook use, and possibly promotional work. With the horses, my conditions are limited, but that's a bit easier for me to contain.

It's an 80 minute live set -- two 40 minutes between intervals. I'll be covering the actual live gig. I travel 120klm to the gig and back again.

"Recruited"? Translation: "Hey, nice pics, how much for pics of our band"?

You either got the gig or you don't.

What do the other bands want? Exactly.

Prints?
DVD w/ images?
What do they want the images for?

You will need to find out, otherwise pricing is pretty much crystal ball stuff.

When you do find out, a contract/license should be entered into.

Cover image for 500,000 DVD's = X amt paid to photog.
Facebook pics = X amt paid..etc...etc..

Nice first attempt Sascha. Second try might not be as easy, especially if it's guy's you don't know. Things tend to change when it's a paid for job rather than a relaxed opportunity. You don't mention if you are using any sort of contract, if you maintain image rights, guaranteed stage access etc. Sounds as if you are hoping to move forward. I'd use this next gig to continue to learn from, charging basic travel expenses plus incentive $ to keep em honest. If you do good work, after more experiences, you'll know when and if you need to charge more.
