M7 - Quick Survey - Marks out of 10

I've restrained myself from buying an M7 but it's getting too much.

I'm on the brink. My M6 needs a rest.

 

So, would you kind folk with M7s please let me have one digit - no

essays - a mark out of ten for the M7 based on your experience so far?

 

If the average is 8 or above, I'll do it.

Paul- you want the thing. If it won't cause anyone any hardship,

just get it and don't bother with silly questions. Read the threads

in the archives- read the essays. Go to Tamarkin/Ken Hansen

and play with one, then pull out your credit card. Post again in a

couple of weeks with some pictures.

My desire for one rates a 10, but I think I'll wait a year or two for the "nits" to be addressed.

 

That and my disposible income always has to be a higher number than that of my desire.

9.9. I'm very pleased with mine. No problems with the DX contacts. More plus than minus. But then I have slim fingers.

Paul, I can help you out. I have a rest home for tired M6's. No rental or care fees required, just hand 'er over and we'll do the rest.

9.5 out of 10. I took off 0.5 because of no increase in shutter speed/sync speed and some (minor) difficulty withdrawing film.

9. No quality or performance issues, the score deductions are all nitpicky design issues and to leave room for improvement.

its a Leica m.It needs work.

if you want the M7,buy it.

M6 or M7 auto exposure or not,Leica photographers

must do their own thinking.Thank goodness.

Thats why i gave my daughter my Eos system.

i wouldn't change a thing -- a perfect 10. sure it will be as

unrepairable as a nikon EL/EL2 in ten years, but who wants to

live forever anyway.

I would say a 9. I use my Sears needle nose plyers to get the film out, The

finder (.72) is just that little bit less bright than an R2. A wonderful camera--

Can handhold 2 f stops better than an R2 or my Nikon F2. Film loading is a

non-event--after 6 rolls, not one was a problem. My first M--.

If only Leicas are included in the judging, it's a solid 10. If you include the Hexar RF, then it's a 9. If you put it out there with all 35mm cameras, a 4. And if I'll let medium format into the arena, well, you don't want to know ;>)

It's 9.485 so far, folks - taking Jay's figure as a 10 since he hasn't told us what he was smoking. Things are looking clear enough. Lots of serious user satisfaction here.

Statistically speaking .... I give it an average rating of 8 with a standard deviation of 0.5. So if M7 ratings folow the Normal curve, the we expect with confidence 95% the true mean rating for all M7 "raters" to be between 8-1.96(0.5) and 8+1.96(0.5) :-)

I think Jay is giving you a pretty accurate response. In the Leica world it's on top. In the 35mm camera world, it's a poor value for the price.

But I'm not one to quibble with indulging yourself...I can't really justify the money I spent for my Hasselblad Xpan (not yet anyway), but still it's satisfying to have. The M7 is a fine insturment to hold and use. If you have the cash and it makes you happy, go for it.
