frank_skomial
BlueRay technology is not an Apple native technology and therefore Apple does not offer (yet?) (or did not offer) BluRay recorder.
There are external recorders from Buffalo, LG Electronics, Sony, Asus, and LaCie, Panasonic.
Even though there are drivers for version OS 10.6 on iMac, reviews are not that great.
Search Amazon for it, and read all Apple users reviews, before deciding on one.
mc2imaging
I haven't felt the need to go BluRay yet, but I'll probably buy from Other World Computing (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/blu-ray) when the time comes.

I've been buying drives and enclosures from them for over a decade, and the prices and products are always top-notch. I've had issues with various brands of drive enclosures, even from well respected brands, but I've never been disappointed with and enclosure from OWC.

The enclosure is the interface between your computer and the drive when you go external, it doesn't do any good to buy a great drive and put it in a lousy case!

bill_shields
Albeit lack of official support, you can use Blu-ray but only with a Mac Pro internal drive. External drives like the OWC Mercury Pro will let you add Blu-ray capabilities to your Mac book Pro along with some help from special software like Toast.
vancouver_wedding_portrait
I have purchased a LG-BP06LU11 Blu Ray burner even though it is for PC; it worked fine with Mac and using Toast for Blu Ray burning.

Wayne Lam Creative Media Director
Vancouver Wedding Photographer + Videographer
Photography
Video
