ligia_dovale
Which camera would you prefer for an amateur photographer. Nikon D5100 or the D7000? I am being asked this question and do not know the answer. Your input is appreciate it.
Matt Laur
If the budget isn't an issue, the D7000 is the obvious choice. A much nicer, and more versatile camera.
tonybynum
no question, hands down, d7000 not even a comparison . . .
ShunCheung
Unless you only shoot landscape and perhaps macro, the D7000's superior AF makes it a better wildlife camera. The D7000 has better construction and weather sealing and can tolerate rougher conditions. In fact, currently I prefer the D7000 over the D300/D300S for wildlife photography (and for wildlife, I prefer the 1.5x DX-format crop sensor).
AlanKlein
I shoot landscapes mainly and of course would use it for general travel and people shots. I don't really do sports. Wouldn't I be better of with the D5100 because of the articulating screen? Why is the 5100 better for macro? ANy other major differences?
Flickr gallery: https://www.flickr.com/photos/alanklein2000/albums
Two23
What do you want to photo? You might be better off getting the D5100 and putting more money into a lens.

Kent in SD
david-w
The 5100 won't AF with older screw drive lenses so you do limit your cheap second hand lens options a little, if you were ever interested.

The 7000 is all round a 'better' camera but the 5100 has some features that may suit you. It's a lot smaller and lighter which may be beneficial for travel. The tilt screen is nice, but the 5100/7000 live view is a little crippled anyway (no EV meter).

D
