<p>Unless you only shoot landscape and perhaps macro, the D7000's superior AF makes it a better wildlife camera. The D7000 has better construction and weather sealing and can tolerate rougher conditions. In fact, currently I prefer the D7000 over the D300/D300S for wildlife photography (and for wildlife, I prefer the 1.5x DX-format crop sensor).</p>

<p>The 5100 won't AF with older screw drive lenses so you do limit your cheap second hand lens options a little, if you were ever interested.</p>

<p>The 7000 is all round a 'better' camera but the 5100 has some features that may suit you. It's a lot smaller and lighter which may be beneficial for travel. The tilt screen is nice, but the 5100/7000 live view is a little crippled anyway (no EV meter).</p>
