stemked
Hi All.

I'm on the road with infrequent internet, but want to check in on this. My K7 is giving me different info on the top and on the back of the camera. The back is incorrect, it keeps saying my 400mm f5.6 is "f2.8'. While a 400mm f2.8 is a dream lens it isn't accurate. The shutter speeds seem ok provided I don't use my TC (1.4X-S). I reset the camera and got the same thing. Mind you the camera has been stressed, as much as I am trying to keep it cool it is getting pretty war,m and it is rather dusty.
Any thoughts?
Doug

ian s. forsyth
I would first check the contacts on the lens and body. I would see if other lenses are affected and maybe see if it’s the lens or the body. I had the same problem with the k20d every once and a while with the sigma 70-200 2.8 it would read 1.4 . I guess it’s a way of getting a faster lens without the cost. Could this be a ploy in justifying a new k5, I found the quickest way was just to drop the k20d.
michael_elenko
Doug,
According to the Pentax product data sheet about their rear converters that I found here, this TC is "not usable" with the 400mm f5.6 "A" lens. Perhaps it is optically usable, but the automated pieces will never function.
Bummer.

ME

ricardovaste
Douglas: Just a thought, is this a Sigma (or even Tokina) lens you're using? The chips they use are always reverse engineered and all over the place, but still do the job fine from my experience. If it's a Pentax, sorry, ignore me!
sleahy73
I'm with Richard on this. My cameras have all had trouble recognizing 3rd party lenses, especially older ones. Only seems to affect the data, though; the images all came out as expected.
