martin_wouterlood1
My nephew is experiencing a shutter lag of almost 1 second in the above settings on his D90 Nikon...without flash everything seems OK...is this an anomaly or a fault that should not occur, please? Many thanks for helpful replies.

scott_ditzel1
Does he have noise reduction enabled (I'm assuming the camera has it) ?
Peter_in_PA
Sounds like red eye reduction to me, but your nephew should consider just shooting in color and converting to B&W later. Reason? You have more control over how the tonality occurs. I think both Lightroom and Photoshop (not sure about Photoshop Elements) have WAY better tools for converting to B&W than the camera does.

semi-off topic, but just a thought...
