stillstonevillage
Hi there, I have recently purchased a Leica R 3 cam 1.4 from eBay. Unfortunately, it comes in with signs of fungus growing from the edge now. Worse, the focus ring turns loosely without moving the inner elements. So this is a dummy. Anyone knows if this can be fixed and who can do the job and usually how much? Thanks.
steve_levine
I'm not sure you are using the term "dummy" correctly? In Leica parlance, a "dummy" is a non-working display unit.
First I would try to return the lens for a refund. Unless you acquired it at a really low price, the price of repairs may seem steep. Also not every situation with fungus can be totally fixed.
cpy_leitz
If the fungus is already visible, chances of a full recovery is slim. I can guarantee that the attempt-to-repair quote will be high and probably not justified. The loose focus ring "might" be an easier fix though. If I were you, I take Steve's advice to request a refund, if you can't - give yourself an excuse to buy a summicron 50, which is better than lux E55 anyways. But this time, check carefully!!!!
cpy_leitz
Better yet, if you insist on a Lux, you can buy my copy - MINT cosmetic and optical, just a bit of dust, that's all. I have both LUX and CRON 50, I'm keeping the CRON.
