Heidelberg Area Ideas

<p>Colleagues,<br>

I am traveling to the Heidelberg area for four days in mid-July and would love to be pointed in the right direction for photo opportunities. Thank you in advance for your input.<br>

<p>In town:<br /> Heidelberg Castle. Take the funicular up, if running.<br /> Philosopher's way views<br /> Huge Gothic church (I forgot the name) in the town square.<br /> Market days in the town square.<br /> Illuminated manuscripts were on display when I was there several yrs ago.<br /> Great student bars.</p>

<p>Near-by:<br /> Day trip up the Neckar to Neckarsteinach castles. Inexpensive < $25/person.<br /> Hirschhorn - old town, castle<br /> Eberbach - two or three castle ruins. One is a steep climb but free and open all day and night.</p>

<p>What Tom said, plus try to get in the Schwetzingen Gardens, it is 12km from Heidelberg. Allow at least 1/2 day for it. The river cruise was a highlight on our last trip there, 3.5 hours long and very relaxing. At the big church by the Marketplatz pay the lady 1 euro and climb the stairs to the bell tower landing, fantastic views. RandyB </p>
