Today is Jay Maisel's 80th Birthday. His assistant had a few friends write something about him. I thought they were pretty funny. so for those of you who follow Jay Maisel's work, click on the link and read the post from Mel Di Giacomo, I thought his post was particularly funny.

Joe McNally's Mom..... on a completely different side of the court...... well....... his Mother had passed away. I found his post quite interesting. There are times when I feel I should make a photo and do not go through with it for one reason or the other. After reading his post...... maybe I shouldn't ignore those feelings.

My condolences go out to him and his family at this time of sorrow.

Thanks for posting - loved the article by Joe McNally about shooting on a hunch. The missed opportunities I've been given, and didn't take. It may sound morbid, but that's part of why I photograph my loved ones so often now. I want them to be around forever, but I know they won't be, so my photos are my personal relics of them.

I did something similar recently. My grandmother is...well...getting up in age. I decided to take a few shots of her as well. I am thankful I was able to shoot with Kodachrome (just talked with Dwaynes today and my four rolls are on the way back). I also took a few shots with my Polaroid 195. I had to use fuji film of course. I also visited my mothers grave (first time in a number of years) and took some shots of her grave marker. She passed away nearly 30 years ago. I was only 4. I intended to shoot all the parents and grandparents with the Kodachrome, but never got around to it. So I need to work on that. Most likely with B&W film.

I am not taking these photos for me...but for my kids and those that come after me.
