It's difficult to find because it's not sold as a separate part. You must buy the complete assembly.

That's because the alignment of the components is critical to proper operation of the camera.

Here's a drawing of the assembly from the 503 service manual:

Alignment of the assembly with the camera front plate is also critical.

Honestly, the ELM camera bodies are so utterly inexpensive these days I'd get on ebay and buy the worst looking one ( cosmetically ) that I could find. You'll get it plenty cheap I'm sure. Use it as a parts camera and there you go.

Unless you just have to have a brand new part which may be elusive. If so, as Henry mentioned...David Odess is the place to check first. He's a good man.

Let us know how it turns out.

As the largest used camera dealer in the world, they also have access to a huge parts inventory.

That's not necessarily a good combination.

When I have a repair done, I want to know that the parts installed are new, not pulls from damaged cameras.

That being said, I do my own Hasselblad repairs, and have a large stock of new parts, so I don't have to worry.

As Leigh B wrote, the shaft that is broken is not available as a separate part. The reason for this is that this shaft is aligned with the shaft that it is connected to at the factory, and they are aligned very precisely. So, as Leigh B wrote, you would need to replace the front gear assembly. I haven't had to purchase this part in many years, so I could not tell you the cost of the part. However, I do know that it would be very expensive, and would most likely cost more than the price of a used camera body. So your best bet would be to purchase an inexpensive ELM camera body, and use it for parts.

Thanks david. I guess that is what I have to do. Do you possibly know what might have caused it? I personally uses a 500c for my photos but this is my fathers old one and has been laying around for a while... it must have been quite the force to brake it.

In instances where the front key has been broken, it is most likely due to the fact that the camera was jammed, and someone tried to turn the front key with a pair of pliers, or similar tool, thinking that this would wind the mechanism, and free the jam. However, when a camera body is jammed, turning the front key with a tool will most likely break the front key.

Well. Following the advice on the board I bought a secondhand one that was broken according to the ebay seller. It arrives and turnes out to work perfectly fine... Just needed a bit of love and a battery. So Im still stuck with a broken one, but now I have two. Anyway, if anyone finds the part or happen to have a broken one to send to switzerland let me know... cheers and thanks

Well that would seem to be good for your John! Hopefully, you didn't pay too much for it and it's working.

Simple solution though........just make the one that's still broken the parts camera for your recently purchased camera.

Or keep buying broken ones until you get one that's really broken!
