phyliss_crowe
Another treasure may be added to my collection - a Yashinon 55mm macro w/bayonet mount. Don't have it yet to compare to the Pentax K bayonet to know whether it will fit, but from a little research, it doesn't appear that it will.

*snap*

So--- I have a Chinon 50mm with very oily blades. Is it possible to successfully put the Chinon K mount on the Yashinon with no issues? Neither lens has contacts.

Thanks!
phyliss_crowe
It's definitely NOT a Y/C lens mount.
phyliss_crowe
There's definitely no Y/C stamped on the lens I'm getting. It's a Yashinon ML 55mm macro.

Does your Yashica look similar to this? Not a good photo but all I've been able to find so far.

http://s633.photobucket.com/albums/uu58/summarex/Sales/Ebay/Yashinon/?action=view¤t=DSC_0079.jpg
john_shriver
The Yashinon is Contax/Yashica mount. Physically, it's logically feasible to convert the lens. But a lot of custom machining, would cost more than the Pentax-M 50/4 or Pentax-A 50/2.8 macro lenses. (They are also both excellent lenses.)
http://www.leitax.com makes conversion kits for the Carl Zeiss lenses in Contax/Yashica mount, but folks aren't excited enough about the Yashinons to pay for mount conversion kits. No idea if one of the Zeiss conversion kits could be applied to the Yashinon with some level of modification.
The Chinon lens's mount isn't likely to fit without some machining. But having a working mount to start from is easier that maching the works from scratch.
phyliss_crowe
Rats.

camerapedia says that's a proprietary mount so I'm out of luck.

You're probably right, Les. The antique store booth I'm finding this stuff in must belong to a retired photographer. He trickles things into it every so often, and most all of it has been screw mount. I just haven't seen any Yashica cameras since I discovered this place 2 years ago.

Have seen a Vivitar 450/SLD body, a couple Sears KS bodies, several Spotmatics, stuff like that. All extremely well taken care of, too. It's where I found a Tomioka 60mm macro a couple weeks ago. This time, I found the Yashinon macro and an M42 mount Vivitar 50mm/1.7 with the blue VMC logo. The 8-digit serial begins with 94xxxxxx, not on the Roberts list. But very sharp, all metal, and contrasty.

Well, I'm getting the Yashinon anyway. Gotta be worth something.

Thanks for the info!
phyliss_crowe
John, is a mint condition Yashinon ML 55mm macro worth it? Or should I just leave it alone and sell it all original?
phyliss_crowe
I'll email the folks at your link to ask if conversion is possible.

Thanks for your help!
phyliss_crowe
Well...horse apples.

Got the lens today. It is a Yashica/Contax mount. I emailed the folks who do conversions. They said it would be too expensive to convert to Pentax K or M42, like this:

http://www.pbase.com/wesleywong/diy__convert_yc_to_m42_mount

Looking around eBay, I find adapters for everything BUT PK. Seems a little odd to me, looking at it, because there's an adapter to use it on a Canon EOS, which doesn't seem all that much different from PK.

Oh, well. It's still a very nice lens in great condition. Guess I'll either offer it on eBay or get the EOS adapter and see if my son's girlfriend wants to buy it.

Thanks anyway, people!

phyliss_crowe
I believe it does 1:1, and the set I found on flickr seems to confirm the few positive user reviews I've been able to dig up.
