steve_wagner1
There are two 1ds3's that just came on Wash DC Craigslist, purporting to be in great shape, one in DC for 2700 and one in VA for 2600. Does that seem fishy? Way too cheap (should be $4500 in the condition advertised), two of them in different but nearby locations, almost identical price. Anybody had two 1ds3's stolen recently?
scott_ferris
$4,500 is way too high for a 1Ds MkIII now. I got one 12 months ago from a dealer with 30 day trial, six month warranty, extra battery and it was a certified ex Canon Explorer Of Light personal body. It had a factory service ticket with low shutter count too. All for $4,250.

While $2,700 might seem low, it is a realistic selling price and all most would get as a trade in. Talk to them, if they don't know the camera intimately, or are selling it for "a friend" then steer well clear, or better, report them.

All the others that they've had have been in this range, in good shape at least, which is what these CL posters are listing.

bueh
Almost all -- no, ALL -- ridiculously cheap cameras on Craigslist are certainly scams. There is no camera and the seller is not local.
scott_ferris
Brett,

I just checked the history of mine, I got it from Jack's Camera Shop on 1st August 2009 for $4,250 including, details as above, spare genuine battery and free shipping.

Actual sale prices are often well below advertised prices, though B$H and Adorama are exceptions, they seem happy to sit on top end used digital gear for ever. I would not expect much more than $2,500 if I were to trade mine in against another system. Be cautious for sure, but if wanted cash for mine tomorrow then sub $3,000 is the range I'd realistically expect to get.
dstephenson
I saw a similar add in the Milwaukee Craigslist, I responded asking for a serial number so that I could research the camera's history. No response and the next day the add was gone. It's a scam!

digitmstr
Trade-in prices are NOT selling prices! If the store trades for $xxx it's because they expect to make a profit on top of that amount, so the OP is very much correct. $2,500 is a way-too-low price and most certainly a SCAM.
scrivyscriv
I've seen a few of those in the Memphis area CL. Way too low! One was even listed for $1800ish.
