christin_buehrer
I have A 4GB Lexar compact flash, I've used it for about a year and a half now and have never had problems with it before. But now it's telling me that the card only has enough space to hold one picture (I'm shooting with my Canon 40D) When I plug it into my computer it tells me I only have 8.9MG of space available, there is nothing on this card no folders or pictures or anything. Did my CF break? If so is there a way I can fix it or use some kind of recovery on it? Has anyone else had this problem with Lexar?
mark_sirota1
Do you reformat the card in the camera to empty it, or do you delete files individually? Does reformatting in the camera make a difference?
acbeddoe
To emphasize: re-format the card in the camera.

mark_sirota1
Does that mean that reformatting in the camera worked?

As a general rule, the usual recommendation is to always format in the camera after you've uploaded the images and backed them up. Treat the card as write-once in the camera, and read-only on the computer. Don't delete individual images. Just copy the whole card to the computer, back it up, and reformat the card in the camera every time.
christin_buehrer
It did work, I had never before deleted the images off the card from my camera. I always just deleted them from the computer.
mark_sirota1
Okay, now you know... don't do that! Just leave 'em on the card. To erase them, reformat the card every time you put one into the camera.
