Low Res to High Res Conversion

<p>I have been told that software exists that allows you to convert low-res jpg's to high res. Has anyone used any of these programs? </p>

<p>Most photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop) allow you to resample an image to increase the number of pixels. There are also tools to sharpen images, which increases the contrast at edges, sharpening the appearance.</p>

<p>Neither of these tools increase the amount of information in the original file. In fact, some information is lost in either process. Resampling makes the pixels smaller so that you are less likely to see individual pixels in a print. The image itself looks no sharper than before.</p>

<p>Yes, Lightroom will do this. Just uncheck the "Don't Enlarge" checkbox in the Image Sizing section of the Export dialog.</p>

<p>Up sampling only works with a reasonably high resolution image. a 3600x 2400 image could be up sampled to 4200x 2685 with little visual softening; a touch of sharpening is all that is needed.<br>

To up sample a small image 360x240 to 800x600 for example would result in serious softening.</p><div></div>
