I guess I'm first.

All images auto-scanned by Vuescan on a 9000ED.

(Note that Flickr has changed its user interface. To see my

images larger, you have to click through and select “View all sizes” in the Actions menu.)

First up – almost-boreal forest. This is Lac Bourassa draining into Rivière du Loup, Mastigouche, Mauricie region

of Quebec. The cement construction slows the rate at which the lake empties into the river. This has caused the

geological substrate downstream to reveal itself -- in places you can almost walk across the river without

getting your shoes wet -- and created a sequence of little waterfalls (e.g.: 3 scans ptgui’d together; <a

href=" crop). The original purpose of the artifact

probably had to do with fishing. It also floods the natural banks around the lake, I suspect making it more

attractive to moose, thus hunters. Aha, I did not mention, Mastigouche is a game reserve. Trivial fact: it’s also

where Grey Owl was filmed.

Astia 100F + Pentax 67II + 55mm F4 + GND. I prefer the trees in silhouette but regret the underexposed bank. In

retrospect, I also regret not raising the tripod higher, in order to show the lake and hills in the background

better. Oh well.

Finally, a soccer pitch next to a mill. Velvia 50, Pentax 67II + 105mm F2.4. I think it's an interesting photo but it could have been a great photo (IMO) if there had been action in front of the net. Coulda woulda didnta. 'Course, a real photographer would have recruited some people and put them in shorts.

Good job Leo in keeping the flame burning. This week my selection is from an old industrial assignment for an annual report. I needed some interesting shapes and compositions from the arrangement of the tanks, this was before PS so it was later cropped and text added by the editor, but here's the original. Details as I recall were Bronica SQam, Kodak 160 VPS, probably PS 65mm lens. Have a safe and healthy week.

00X1o6-267153684.jpg.2f46c686b0d60a0bea54777bbdb13344.jpg

Leo,
My appreciation for starting this post. Something we can all look forward to each week. May I suggest (as in the Pentax POTW) that comments, critiques, etc on the posts be encouraged and favourites acknowledged?

Thomas great landscape! Leo if it's ok to suggest favorites as suggested, mark that one as mine. #2 is the 2nd shot from Predrag.

Guys what do you think of posting favorites? At first blush I'm sort of against it but I'd like ot hear what others feel as we start the MF POW. I guess that what we establish now is how it will be down the road.

Anyway here's mine. It's a Crusader era construct outside of Tel Aviv.

00X2Qi-267507584.jpg.c6ea79e3a86a36e8c512c9e252654788.jpg

Of course readers should feel free to write critiques, mention favourites, whatever. Also, I encourage contributors to mention as many technical details as they can remember --- lens, film, light, aperture, speed, etc. I mean, it is a photography site :-) I personally like it when photographers write more to accompany a photograph -- about the subject, their thoughts, picture making process, etc. Who enjoys the task of preparing such comments (not I) is encouraged to do so.

I don't mind the light comments or faves, but I prefer to avoid the "critique" business. There's a forum for that anyway, plus I think it maybe intimidates newer users? Either way, I'll just go along with the flow. Also maybe for now let's limit to three pics?

Leo, thanks again for starting this. Love seeing the magic of MF in all these images.

One of my first MF scans ever. Shot with a Rolleicord Va, belonged to the grandfather of the people below (my niece and my son). My father-in-law took many a picture of these teenagers' parents (my wife and her brother) with this camera. I have recently had this camera CLA'd by Krikor Maralian, and he also installed a brighter screen in it shipped to him by Rick Oleson. Film was Kodak Ektar 100, processed by Walmart (Fuji), did not record aperture. Scanned with VueScan Pro on an Epson V600 at 3200dpi, imported in LR and did a bit of color balancing. The horizon was not level anyway, but I exaggerated it even more since I liked the effect.

Had a wedding to shoot on Aug 7. While I did the majority of it in digital 35mm I did take a break every now and then to break out the Hasseblad.

if i could offer a humble opinion, having been scarred for years at the keyboards/cameras of those vicious leica forumer-bastardos, three photographs is about a perfect 'per-photog" max for a weekly photo thread. TRULY, TRULY, one is best, but, if you have to fool yourself and get it out of your system that you can't chose your weeks best shot, then definitely, three is enough. I've seen the free-for-alls, they're not pretty. pick one- it's easy, - just pick the one you'd pick if you had to pick one.
