EOS 1D - playback magnification

Dear All,

 

Having just read through Phil Askey's review of the EOS 1DS I note

that this model offers Playback Magnification through a combination of

buttons and dials. Do you think there is any change that, through a

software upgrade, Canon will enable this for the 1D ?

There are two parts to the answer:

 

1) Is it technically possible? The review I read said that enabling the zoom feature increases the image size due to a larger thumbnail image in the TIFF. If the thumbnailing is done in hardware for speed, then no software-only change can add the feature.

 

2) Would Canon add features to an existing product? Many people think the answer is "no". If the 1D and 1DS firmware is built from the same set of source files, there's a better chance, but it is still a marketing/product management-type decision.
