randy_kayle
I have a D90, and SB-600, and 800.

If I use a ND filter to obtain wide apterture, will the flash atomaticly compensate for the ND filter in front with ITTL?
vinh
It should, after all TTL = through the lens, which means the light being measured will pass through the ND filter.
peterafle
Tell us more about what you're doing -- why not just dial down the flash output and dispense with the filter altogether?
randy_kayle
Hi Pete,
I',m trying to use flash in bright sunlight with a wide aperture to knock the focus out from the backround. I know I can use FP High Synq, but the power is greatly diminished.
Limmitation with 200 of a sec with flash.

I know how using the old film cameras and manual flash, but was wondering on the Ittl Flashes..

Thank you for your help.
mark liddell
The metering system should deal with the ND since it is metering through the lens. Variable ND filters may be more susceptible to metering issues though but I have no had any yet. I guess you'll need to try it out and see. I have always found ND filters a much better alternative than FP sync as the power loss is massive.
