Thanks for all your input . I is very clear for me now , I know what I have . I expected to get a true AI lens , not a adapted one because it deos not say it on the add .
1 Should I expect the same functionnality as an AI lens ?
2 Was the price of $US 220 rasonnable ?
3 Is the AIS better than the AI ?
I am using it in D700 body
Thanks

1. Yes
2. Depends. The AI and AI-S versions of this lens (post 1977) sell anywhere from about $100 to $250 on fleabay depending on quality. The older non-AI versions are usually somewhat cheaper.
3. No, for an older film body like the FM2 or similar. I don't own a modern Nikon digital camera so I don't know about compatibility with those.
Congratulations on your purchase. The 105/2.5 is THE iconic portrait lens from Nikon. I have been using the AI-S version of this lens for over 25 years, and I just picked up a like-new Nikkor P-C (circa 1976, Gauss design, pre-AI with the improved coating) version of this lens for $100 because the aperture blades are starting to hang on my AI-S. It will be sent off to be converted to AI this week ($25 + postage). Next on your shopping list should be the Nikkor 180mm 2.8 ED AI-S, another amazing classic from the Nikon MF days :)
