mvw photo
Hey kids,

Shooting a few charity runs tomorrow. Downtown charity runs in a small town; kids and adults, etc. For two newspapers.

I'll use a 16-35 on the 1D Mark III for those nice wide shots. But for the other, closer shots, what would you put on the camera (a 1D Mark IV): a 24-70 2.8 or a 70-200 2.8? Just wondering what others would choose as a first choice.

Michael
richardsnow
+1 for 70-200mm f/2.8

For running I'd expect to hand hold, so VR/IS is a must.

RS
savagesax
I personally would play around with the 70-200, maybe get some fun face reactions. By the way, how is that Mk 4 working out for you?
mvw photo
Hi Bob,

70-200 is the consensus then. It's on the 1D4 camera...

The 1D Mark IV is working out very well for me. I use it not just for sports (e.g. in the last few days, http://blog.michaelwillems.ca/2010/04/25/quick-sports-checklist/ and http://blog.michaelwillems.ca/2010/04/26/and-another-few-sports-tips/) but for most of my photography now.

I hear of focus issues, but then again, small samples. All I can say is it works fine for me.

Michael
buffdr_rasouliyan
Anytime I shoot an outside event, I always use my 70-200 2.8 IS. The BEST zoom I have ever used. v/r Buffdr

mvw photo
Because I am always interested in what other photogs do.

In the event, I used a 16-35 for the crowd shots and the 70-200 for the runenrs-from-a-distance. The 16-35 for the finishing line also.

Mike
