phill kneen
I have just bought a second-hand CanoScan FS4000us film scanner. I have it installed, however there is one small problem, I don't have the manual so I have no idea how it works! Does anyone have one and can guide me through? I just want to scan the slides/negs so I can post them on photo-sites. I have tried, but they only seem to save as 'ADC' files? A simple 1,2,3 guide for idiots would be perfect! Many thanks. jay_.
Are you not using an image editing program like Photoshop or one of the "Lite" versions thereof?
jackflesher
Use Photoshop: File/Import/"The name of your scanner or software". Then your scanning software should load automatically, and you generally do a pre-scan, scan and then a "send" to PS. It will now be a "PSD" file in PS which you can adjust and convert to whatever you want for export.
wouter_dhert
You should try using the VueScan scanning software. Quite easy and good manual on the internet (see www.hamrick.com). Other good tips on scanning with the Canoscan 4000 on http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints.html and good scantips in general at www.scantips.com/ Good luck! steve_barnett2
You will presumably have the Canon Filmget software supplied with the scanner, or downloadable from Canon at no extra cost. This has a passable 'Help' file. Maybe Canon also do a .pdf version of the full manual?
xav
If you have the CDs, you should have full documentation on them (even more than what is printed). Otherwise, as suggested above, get vuescan. The Canon FS4000 seems to be targeting consumers instead of professionals: The bundled software is geared toward ease of use and lacks advanced control features (IMHO, it sucks).
