Yeah Bob, I was tricked into believing Saturday was going to be a rainy mess, so I slept in and then edited some photos. Turned out it hardly rained. If today looks the same (so far it does) I am definitely getting a hike in somewhere.

Camus, love the second shot, the first one is interesting but doesn't work for me.

Javier, is that a K20D in camera coloration?

A shot from a series I am doing for a conference in Baltimore.

And some fun:

Colvin at the top of his first summit. The Catskill Forest Preserves, Overlook Mountain. Nice little hike and plenty of snow, to keep us entertained. Not bad for his 3rd day on the trail, 6 miles and about 2800 ft!
Aim proudly posing on the summits eastern viewpoint with her next generation trail dog as the sun sets over the Ashokan Reservoir. Sunsets from this spot are always beautiful, but the Panasonic FX01 we took was running low on battery in the cold so this wasn't quite up to par, needed a bit more fill flash.

Nice work so far by everyone. Henk, I really like the gasworks shot. Camus, nice to see you back.
Well, Bob and Justin, I guess the rain you didn't have yesterday all came here. A couple of inches worth and gusty winds. So I had to go out. Went into the city and got very wet and eventually cold but as always, had a great time. All were taken with the K20D and the DA 35 ltd.

00Vzhl-228955884.jpg.4093877448f8c517dae8b532c0b1e847.jpg

Justin, Those images with the crazy colors are where made on film. 99 cents film to be exact. I have been using those old sears lenses on both DSLR and film and have been noting they produce allot of contrast and bring out the color. For some they will not like the color, but for me, it matches that film look good.

No spring yet, but I can feel it coming. Took out the P-K 20mm f4.0 which is rapidly replacing my P-F 28/2.8 as my favorite lens. K20D K20/4.0 Pl/T/MU.
Camus, welcome back. I have missed your insight (Pun :). Thanks for memories of the old Basin.
Dorus, simply stunning photography.
All great shots so far.

00Vzri-229053684.jpg.06a3eb54d7a321a9a38d08e104d9801f.jpg

The San Diego DSLR club had its monthly Group Shoot yesterday at the San Diego Botanical Gardens. Here are a few shots from that outing. All with K20D, this first one with the DA35 Macro at f/8.0, ISO 100.

This frog was one of at least 4 in pond in the Bamboo Garden, the only place we could get a shot from required shooting almost straight into the low sun. DA55-300 at 300, f/5.8, ISO 100.

Also with the DA35 Macro, f/9.0, ISO 200.

I really like the DA35 Macro as a general purpose lens, but after seeing a few friends from the club with longer macros (including one with a Pentax 200mm macro) I'm thinking that something longer would be nice too. Of course, that sort of lens envy has already cost me way too much in the past year, so maybe I should find something to distract me.

More images in this gallery or in my blog.

Hey Justin,
Nice to see Colvin, the new trail dog. He is a very nice looking pup. I read your blog entry. Glad to see he is doing very well. He's not named after Mt Colvin, is he?

Short answer, yes. Longer answer is he is named after the man the mountain is named after.

I gave a short history of Verplanck Colvin, father of the American conservation movement and creator of the "Adirondack Park" on the previous blog post (here) when we got Colvin last month!
