balint Posted September 19, 2002 Share Posted September 19, 2002 I have a Nikon F90x which I haven't used since I have my F5. I wasthinking to sell this camera, but nobody wants it for 650 euros. ThanI tought why not swap with an F3HP.
My reasoning is: the F3HP is much better built than the F90x, needs nobatteries (except the CR ones which last for a year) and I can take itto trips where the F5 would be too heavy or where power consuption iscrtical. The downside would be the flash system. I could use mycurrent flashes, but the F90x would do a much better job.
What is your opinion, swap it or not? sorin Posted September 19, 2002 Share Posted September 19, 2002 A used F90x sells on auction sites for pretty much the same amount of money as an F3HP in good shape. So financially you're fine.

As far as the features go, if you can live with :
* flash sync at 1/90 (I think it's 1/90, it's low anyway) so daytime fill is pretty much out of the question
* only center weighted metering (no spot, no matrix)
* no AF obviously

then sure, go for it.

As benefits I can see :
* 100% finder
* WLF finder available
* mirror lockup
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
majid Posted September 19, 2002 Share Posted September 19, 2002 It has a faster top shutter speed of 1/4000, 1/250 X-sync, a standard flash shoe and all shutter speeds are available without batteries, not just 1/60. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mike_scott2 Posted September 19, 2002 Share Posted September 19, 2002 I'd look at an FM2n too... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
j._o. Posted September 20, 2002 Share Posted September 20, 2002 I wouldn't swap it. The F3HP is
A) the same weight
B) basically incompatable with Nikon's modern flashes unless you use flash brackets
C) almost as battery-dependent as the F90x/F5.
My suggestion is to either keep it or swap it for a camera which is not battery-dependent and/or significantly lighter. cony_dowen Posted September 25, 2002 Share Posted September 25, 2002 Except that the F3 does not EAT batteries like an F90/N90 or an F5 does. I even forgot mine has a battery in it somewhere - but then I never use the LCD illumination in the viewfinder... Conny Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
