Intentionally Misadjusting Mamiya Press Rangefinder

I'm interested in intentionally misadjusting a Super 23 so it reads

accurately with the back at least partially extended (thus giving

a closer coupled focusing distance with the 250/5) It also

seems like an interesting approach to infrared... Has anyone

tried this sort of thing, or at least have enough experience with

adjusting this rangefinder or rangefinders in general to advise as to

its probability of working/probabilty of ruining the rangefinder

forever?
