How to Display Larger Images?

<p >I'm working on a website for my fly fishing club and I have a section for photographs. I want to keep it simple – just a table with thumbnail images that expand to larger images when the user clicks on them. Right now, the larger image opens in a new window in the browser, and then the back button returns to the web page and the close button closes the browser completely. This is just the normal way a website works. My question is, without using a slideshow from Lightroom or something like that, is there a way to make the larger image open centered on the screen with a pleasing background in some other program besides the web browser?</p>

<p>Have you tried something like lytebox or shadowbox? You've most likely seen what these do - darken the page and open the image centered in the browser window. It is fairly easy to implement.<br>
