nachi_abrams
I was taking pictures at a wedding and for no reason that I was able to discern, the shutter on my relatively new D90 stopped depressing. About five minutes later, it started working again. This happened once before. No error messages. Any ideas?
Matt Laur
Do you mean that the button - the actual physical object - stopped mechanically moving when you pressed on it ... or that when you DID press on it, it felt physically normal, but wasn't actually causing the camera to release the shutter?
ShunCheung
If it is the latter as Matt describes it, potentially you might have filled up the memory buffer on the D90. Did you take a lot of consecutive shots and (if you noticed) was the memory card busy green light blinking?
nachi_abrams
I don't really remember how it actually felt at the time, and I didn't notice any blinking light either, but then again, I didn't particularly look. Next time it happens, I will surely be more alert. Thanks.
Matt Laur
Did the camera respond in any way? Meaning, did the AF start hunting for focus, etc?
nachi_abrams
Nope, no response at all. It did not hunt for autofocus.
Matt Laur
It may also have been as simple as an intermittent battery connection (a la dirty contacts) or dirty lens mount electrical contacts. Were you able to navigate the camera's menu system while it was being rude like that?
nachi_abrams
I didnt attempt to do anything but try to depress the shutter as I was desperate to continue to take pictures.
nachi_abrams
Just wondering if this is a repair issue as it is still under warranty.
Matt Laur
Can't say what you're really dealing with, until you can re-create the situation. If it's under warranty, then certainly it's something they should deal with for you, provided they can get a clear understanding of what's actually going on.
nachi_abrams
This is exactly what I intend to do. Re-create the situation and look for error messages. Thanks all.
