Heather's eagles are enticing, Howard, but it looks very cold there so I think I'd prefer shooting from an indoor location ;~). Shooting long MF lenses is challenging, Heather. It seems to me those shots could benefit from a little pp tweaking: a little fill light, brightness and contrast. I'm impressed btw that you were shooting at such fast shutter speeds and ISO 400--it must have been very bright. I've only shot one eagle, btw, but what I learned was that it's hard to get detail in the brown without blowing out the white.

Dave - You're right, a little pp tweaking does a lot for them, it DOES look cold (even the sitting eagle looks like he's questioning his decision to sit on the ice) but those are shots I wouldn't mind being able to take.
Heather - Are they handheld shots?

Dave & Howard - I did a little pp with brightness/contrast. Temps weren't too bad Sunday, around 40F, I can't say that this week though lol. As far as the light, it wasn't super sunny, but all that snow & ice makes a little sun go along way.
They aren't handheld, I had some from the beginning that were, however after about 15 minutes it was starting to get heavy so the tripod came out.

Steve - I'm in Great Falls, I personally have been spotting them on the Missouri between the 10th Ave S bridge downriver to Giant Springs. If I'm remembering correctly you're also from MT, I'm not sure if you're familiar with Great Falls or not. I also saw quite a few Christmas week when I traveled through on Highway 12 between Harlowtown & Lavina. I can't say as they are still hanging around there, but if you're on that side of the state it might be a good place to check out.

Some thoughts that are also continued on the second POW thread:
Javier, I have to LOL about your "slow stuff." Man, hang with me and you'll be snoring within minutes. Anyway, the color and details of your shots here are excellent. Especially the sea critters, that green is amazing. Nice sharpeness and texture too. It's good to take a break from the usual now and then.

Robert C--your shots of Valley Forge triggered distant memories of my childhood. I went there twice--once on a NY school field trip, and the other with my family as my dad had a convention in Philladelphia. I still remember the stonework of Washington's HQ. That's a wonderful shot by the way, I like 'em all actually. No 2 is a little spooky.

Thank you Dave H. Great detail on the merlin. You made me laugh with the second one.

Tyler, you are getting better, she has a remarkable smile. Still a bit too soft, are you applying some negative clarity or something?

Frank B--Love both of them. The first is sharp, the second I like your look of contentment. If that's an attribute of the DA 15mm rather than what lays in front of you please let me know.

Hin, #4 Sunset is well done, love the edges where the ocean meats the coast.

Steve R--wasn't that moon supposed to be blue-cast? Nice one.

ME
