larry_evan Posted December 25, 2009 Share Posted December 25, 2009
Good afternoon all,
I have been seeking it seems for months now, software that would enable me to create a figure model on my computer, change the clothing and posture/pose to see how certain clothing lines would look on certain types of bodies. I have tried poser program, but to no avail (my computer is just not powerfull enough to use). I have been thinking about clothing design software but seems most do not use a subject to create around. Possible I was thinking about using my tablet to sort of trace a model from online sources and add the clothing on, just seems like a lot of time wasted if I try that. Any ideas would be great.

larry
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Hamor Photography Posted December 25, 2009 Share Posted December 25, 2009
Have you looked into Second Life? It's sort of an online game but almost all content creation is done by the virtual world's inhabitants. I'm suggesting Second Life because, even though it's a virtual world game engine, it will give you 100% control over your avatar's height, weight, body type, sex, and clothing. I've heard of a few designers using Second Life to prototype real world items.

There is a definite learning cure to creating clothing and content in the virtual world and it does cost money to upload textures and designs (L$10 of game currency to upload a texture which is roughly $0.04 USD) but it might be easier to play around with a lot less investment than purchasing pro design software. Second Life is free to try out and purchasing $10 USD in game currency will last a long time learning to create clothing for prototyping.

* http://secondlife.com/

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mark_chartrand Posted December 25, 2009 Share Posted December 25, 2009
Take a look at DAZ 3D -- www.daz3d.com -- Some of their programs are free. I don't really know much about it, but I have seen some very good work by artists involved with their software.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
