wolf_rainer_schmalfuss
The infrared sensitivity of the LEICA M8 has indeed become for some people to an live content. Instead of the costly post-coding, plus the calculation with the computer, CARL ZEISS now offers an adequate optical solution. The curved CSC interference filters cuts-off UV and IR components almost completely, without the experience of the dreaded green and cyan color casts, especially noticed with wide-angle lenses. The Carl Zeiss CSC-Filter ist constructed as an two component filter, of an negative and an positive optical glass, equivalent refractive power. In between, there is a filter layer, so that the light-rays will be always straight. Not exactly cheap, but very clever!
Available in three sizes: 46 E, 58 E, 72 E
Alex_Es
Thank you for this information, Wolf. Do you know if these filters were specifically designed for the M8?
wolf_rainer_schmalfuss
YES, especially for the M 8 !
Alex_Es
Thanks again, Wolf. This is interesting. I suppose these are made for Zeiss ZM lenses so that they can be used on the M8. Would be nice if they came in Leica sizes like 39 E, 43 E, 55 E and 60 E.
wolf_rainer_schmalfuss
No Alex, this has nothing to do with the Zeiss ZM lenses only, but they fit best with the Zeiss ZM wide-angle glasses. The problems exist with the original Leica glasses as well as with the Voigtlaender glasses etc. The special filter compensates the infrared sensitivity problems of the M8. The different filter sizes can be corrected easily with available fairly cheap down-sizeing-filter-rings.
