suk_jung_choo
Hi,
the focusing ring on my recently purchased Nikon 28-70 f2.8 works flawlessly in the AF mode, but when using it with my F2 in manual mode, it feels very stiff - almost too difficult to move with my fingers. I was wondering if it is normal for the manual focusing with this lens to be somewhat stiff? As reference, the focusing ring on the 17-35 f2.8 moves effortlessly. Thanks so much.

Sj Choo.

suk_jung_choo
Hello Hans,
thank you for your response. It appears that manual focusing with your 28-70 lens is pretty smooth. Great, that's good to know because then it means that the resistence to manual focusing with my lens is not the norm and I will have to take issue with the dealer. Thanks again.
Ed_Ingold
The focusing is very smooth in a 28-70/2.8, like any AFS lens, only slightly tighter than an AFD lens and much smoother than a manual lens.

Your lens (used?) may have been dropped, damaging the plastic rollers and cams used in place of brass threads on AF lenses.
suk_jung_choo
Yes, it was a used lens. You never know why a used lens is in the market in the first place. Fortunately, the dealer was very cooperative and told me to come down to the shop and he will do what he can to correct the situation. Thank you for replying.
