peter_sas
I know that is well recomended to shoot IR film with IR filter on lens at very bright day, but I'm just wondering if shooting IR at night would in some way work. Any opinion? Petr
bobatkins
Where would the IR come from if there's no sunlight?

Indoors it's fine (especially under Tungsten light), but skylight and even moonlight don't have much IR. I suspect exposures might be measured in hours rather than minutes.

I'm not sure what the point would be.
tony_davis6
I'm with Bob on this one - unless you are using ALS to light the scene with IR, what is the point?
eric_boutilier_brown1
IR at night would be hard, unless you had an IR rich light-source in the image (like tungsten light). If you made a night image of a landscape, I doubt much would result after hours of exposure, as there is no IR light to see. On the other hand, IR is not just for a bright day - I have used it (more often than not in fact) on overcast days - and there is tons of IR light at sunset (red ones, at least)...and then when the sun is down, it is all gone, quite suddenly.
NK Guy
Night infrared photos, like those taken by Weegee or Kohei Yoshiyuki, are usually taken with filtered flash.
matt_needham
It will work as long as you have a decent IR source.
