mattlaudergallery
I am shooting panoramic format 6x17 and I am wanting to get my transparency shots scanned to digital files so I can get digital prints that are good enough to sell/display. I have heard that alot of people are coming back to Ilfochrome methods of printing as they cant get the reproducation quality from a digital print. What sort of file scan size would I require for a print 20inch by 30 inch. Is there any sort of printing paper that I should ask for or avoid when getting digital prints. john_hennessy1
Start with: http://www.calypsoinc.com/ and consider Lightjet prints
howard_slavitt2
You might also try West Coast Imaging (they have a website). Contrary to what you have heard, my experience is that digital prints are in every way superior to conventional prints using Ilfochrome.
ellis_vener_photography
I'm in 100% agreement with Howard. But remember as with all things computational; GiGo always rules: Garbage in = Garbage out. I'm not commenting on your photography (how can I? I've never seen any) but on the digital preperation of your image, starting with the scan quality and then any digital darkroom work that needs to be done and finally making sure your file is set up correctly for the print process being used (i.e. profiling the printer, which goes hand in hand with using a profiled monitor and possibly the scanner as well).<P>If you are not going to try scanning and printing the images yourself, West Coat Imaging is supposed to be very good. So is <A HREF = http://www.nancyscans.com> (this is a link to) NancyScans</A> I'd give either a call.
johnelstad
You might also want to check out The Lightroom in Berkeley, CA. They can handle both digital and traditional printing methods. They have a lot of useful information on their site: http://www.lightroom.com/lr_pages/contents_frameset.html
joshua_i._divack
I agree with Howard's and Ellis' thoughts. I have used both West Coast Imaging and NancyScans within the last 12 months, and they both do great work.
hyperfocal
You would do well to check out Laser Light, Bill Nordstrom's outfit. One thing I hate about labs is that you usually can't talk to the person doing the work. This is not the case with Bill. You get to talk to him and communicate your needs ... and not get charged extra for it. I think it was Cylapso who said in a brochure that the print time would include consultation time, as if they are doing you a favor for talking to you!
