Circular Polarizers for FDn supertelephotos

<p>I have a 300mm f2.8L, a 500mm f4.5L, and a 800mm f5.6L. I know that the C-PL 48 circular polarizer fits these lenses, but will the C-PL 52 fit? I wouldn't be surprised it has been covered in a previous post, but I haven't been able to find it.</p>

<p>According to Canon, the 300f/2.8 takes a rear 52mm filter, and so do the Canon EF 500 f/4.0 and the 800 f/5.6. I have no idea whether polarizers will work in them.</p>

<p>I didn't get that. According to mir.com and the Canon Museum sites, all "white body" FD teles and super teles use a 48mm drop-in filter. The EF lenses use either a 48 or 52mm drop-in filter depending on when it was introduced (earlier lenses use 48mm and later use 52mm).</p>

<p>Thanks for that definitive answer Mark. I wasn't sure if they were interchangable but I suspected not. The C-LP 48 can be a bit difficult to find but I was able to order one from Calumet.</p>

<p>Sorry, Peter, you wrote FD, but I <em>read</em> EF and as I said, "the EF" lenses...<br>

Since I came in from the Unified Forum, I didn't realize where I was. Of course that is getting to be true more generally..... I wondered where the 400mm f/4.5 came from. I use both EF and FD lenses too, to make it even less excusable.</p>
