chadlatta
I have a Polaroid land 100 and supershooter I have been playing with and would like to get some up close shots (closer than 3 feet). I thought about placing a hoya upclose filter in front of the lens but don't know how to calculate the focal distance. Anyone know how I could do this? Thanks. tommyinca
No close up filter max focus distant (from film plane) is Infinity

+1 Close up filter max focus (from filter) is 1 meter. Min distant depends on the lens in use.

+2 Close up filter max focus distant is 0.5 meter. Min distant again depneds on the lens in use.

+ 3 max is 0.33 meter and so on and so on....
jpo3136b
Check out this web page reference. I had a look at it one time; scrolled to the bottom of the page, used one of the formula there, and was able to come up with the answer I needed for a similar problem.

http://www.angelfire.com/ca/erker/closeups.html

Basic idea will be to know what focal length lens you are using the filter on, and then figure out how the CU filter will modify it. Sometimes the web references about it use the abbreviation "CU" for close up. Maybe that'll help.
