miserere_mei
Good stuff, Steve. I like the coyote :-)

What class did you take?

I was thinking of visiting Yellowstone the last week of October. Do you think it's too late in the year? Will it be too cold?
wtlwdwgn
Thanks Mis. I think Yellowstone is great any time of the year. The fall colors will be gone by then and so will most of the tourists. FYI, all of the roads in the Park will close on Nov 2nd unless there is a lot of snow which might close them earlier. The road from Gardiner, MT to Cooke City, MT is open all year. The bears will likely be nearing hibernation, but there should be other wildlife especially in the Lamar Valley in the NE part of the Park. As for being too cold, it depends on what you consider cold. I'd definitely plan for winter as well as fall. If I can get away I just might see you there. Look for a silver Saabaru 92X with MT plates.
wtlwdwgn
Mis, the class I took was Autumn in Yellowstone Digital Photography put on by the Yellowstone Institute, part of the Yellowstone Association. Any of the classes are a great way to learn about the Park. The classes are usually small and inexpensive compared to other types of tours.
heatherdoland
Great series Steve. I was in the Park over Labor Day, were you lucky enough to see the Wolves in the Lamar Valley? They said they had been really active, but of course the day I was up at the North side they were nowhere to be seen! Figures lol.
jgredline
Nice series Steve. My wife was just there as well... I regretted not going with her.
wtlwdwgn
We did see a running for life herd of elk but they were too far away to see what was chasing them although we surmised that it was wolves. I've been relatively lucky in capturing wildlife this year but usually they are where I'm not. 8~)
shots worth sharing
Somehow it's that last shot that really grabs me--nice work!. (Did I mention that I'm envious?)
tim_drake
As I entered Yellowstone last Wednesday (September 30th) the park ranger confirmed what I have consistently found that Yellowstone does not have great fall color and that my best bet was around the park. I found peak fall color on Chief Joseph Scenic hi-way, the Bear Tooth, Jackson Hole, Dubois-Wind River, and atop the Big Horns. Countless photographers were lined up on the Snake River perhaps missing what was down the road in the Wind River Range. Shell Canyon in the Big Horns surpassed anything I saw in Yellowstone last week. Regards, TD
bob-c
Nice series, Steve. I like the last two. I drove through Yellowstone a few years ago, before I got back into photography. It's a good thing too because I probably would still be there.
wtlwdwgn
Timing is everything. Sun thru Tue was warm and sunny, and except for the smoke, the skies were blue. The colors were varied, some past prime, some at prime, and some still green. On Wed the storm arrived and everything changed. Also Yellowstone doesn't have the varied number of trees to give great fall color like some other areas. Still it was a great time as it always is.
michael_elenko
Hi Steve,
the next-to-last one is my favorite (you captured the colors well, there's a lot going on in that shot) as is the last one. I've been to Yellowstone twice and almost ran over a bison at dusk. What a strange head coming out of the fog! Yellowstone seems like another planet. Next time i go back I'm gonna bring a batch of strobes and play around with the colors at night.

ME
lance_blackburn1
A beautiful series of Photos, Steve. I have been watching the BBC series of the four seasons of Yellowstone on the TV. Breathtaking scenery like yours.
