golden
decided to shoot some slides with the petzval, looking forward to autumn this year, the colors should be great with all the rain we have had here in the south east. these were shot on fuji provia 100, processed with the 6 step kit. image 1..

ralf_j.
Super cool shots, not bad for a 150 year old lens on a modern emulsion.
golden
thanks ralf, thats what i thought too, i wasnt sure how they would turn out but it captured the color pretty well. the reason i was testing it with e6 is because a friend at work wanted me to do her portrait with it but wanted it in color, tried to talk her out of it. now i think it might be a pretty good idea.
Rick_van_Nooij
I really like the effect of the swirls. I've seen similar results from box cameras with their meniscus lenses reversed. Apparently people do that on purpose these days :)
va3uxb
It'll certainly be an interesting portrait when you do it! Personally I like the first image the best, Across the Lake. It looks like the closer the focus, the more intense the swirls; the last image looks a bit too swirly for me. Although I'm certain you could make good use of that effect; it is reminiscent of ripples on a pond I think.
tony_lockerbie
I think you are on to something here....the swirly's seem more pronounced with colour, a really interesting effect.
The last shot looks just like a reflection in the water.

chuck_foreman1
Wow and WOW I think the use of color is something! Like Tony said.. youR'e onto something here. I like them all! The first is a good study and has a balanced effect. Liek a reflection. I especially liked the last two very similar in composition amazing cool in swirl. patrick j dempsey
I've produced an almost identical effect by flipping the front element on my 65mm lens of my Mamiya TLR. At infinity it makes the edges all blurry and as you focus closer and closer it makes a defined ring of swirl. Is this typical of the Petzval lenses or do you have a reversed element?

Be aware that this is from a heavily modified camera taking a much larger Polaroid image than the original 6x6 of the Mamiya so the effect is probably only visible in the corners of a 6x6:
