kasperhettinga
Hi there!
My wife has bought my son a very nice shirt with a classical-looking camera on it. However, I don't know whether it's fake or based on a real camera. And if it's based on a real camera, which one it may be. Someone here may shed a light on this mystery??? It would be great to have a photo taken of my son with this shirt on holding the camera which is printed on the shirt :)

peter_naylor1
Hi, Kasper Your son's t-shirt camera looks like a Graflex 'Graphic 35', made by Graflex Inc. from 1955 to 1957. The camera body was made in the USA but the lens and shutter were imported from West Germany. Graflex were perhaps better known for their monster press cameras, but did also make several 35mm models including the Graphic 35. The McKeown's Guide values them at $30 - $45, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one to match that t-shirt ...

Strange to tell, I'd never seen one until our last week's WA Camera Collectors Society meeting, when one of the guys produced one for our 'Show-And-Tell'. Small world, eh?

PETE IN A CHILLY PERTH
kasperhettinga
Cool, thanks a lot for the info! It's not that common, so it's not very easy to pick one up (in the EU), but I will keep my eyes open for sure :) At least the cost won't be the problem (finished ebay items shows prices for the ciro between 10 and 30 euros).
Rick_van_Nooij
Hey, I just picked up a shirt with a camera on it as well. Though it shows a Leica M and it features the text "I shoot people" hehe.
Andy Collins
I had one of those Graflexes actually...it was a cool camera to look at but a bit of a pain to use. The oddly designed shutter release almost guaranteed camera shake each time you shot it, and the focus on mine was way off.
the celt 2
Where did you find that shirt? I just got a sweet deal on the same camera. I hope I have better luck than you did Andy, the focus on mine seems right on, we'll see about the camera shake. But I love the shirt.

Say how about a photo sniper?

chuck_foreman1
I used this camera a couple of times in the 1980s and I also found it awkward. The focus was Ok, Those push buttons left-right were coupled to a RF and the patch was not very bright or maybe just dirty. I still think it's a cool camera and I think my father still has it.. but he can't seem to find any of his old gear. Only in small sizes eh? Thanks for posting a really cool shirt! ralf_j.
An ok camera, weird film advance stop, a triplet rodenstock lens on a prontor shutter, unique focusing mechanism. I say Graflex missed the boat on this one, their Kowa made graflex 35 was a much nicer camera with a fantastic lens.
tri-x1
I have one with the f/2.8 lens. I ran a roll of B&W thought it a few years back and the results were comparable to my Ansco Super Memar from the same general period. I consider it a keeper because of who make it and its one-of-a-kind focusing.
http://www.swcornell.com/camera/fixed_rfs.html
