Mary Doo
Not sure what happened, the zooming mechanism suddenly gets very sticky between 24mm to about 40mm; sometimes almost immovable. I have been using it on and off in the last two days with no problem. I swear it had not been dropped - well, at least not recently. ;)

Is there something I can do to resusitate, or is it doomed to go to Nikon ER?
scott_pogorelc
Last year I had the same problem with mine (in the same approximate zoom range). I sent it back to Nikon and they had to replace the helicoid. Under warranty of course...

hawkman
One of the 24-70 samples that I tried had this problem, it is a mechanical defect and only Nikon can fix it. Send it for repair while it is under warranty.
james_symington1
That is definitely a dud helicoid - hope it is still under warranty as a new helicoid is VERY expensive. I know because I had to pay for one...
ron_erwin1
My one-year-old 24-70 just developed the same problem. So does the perfect lens have an Achilles heel?
james_meketa
This is a known Nikon problem. Mine pretty much healed itself, but with Nikon's 5 year warranty, you will have no problems. Just send it in.
