marco_ristuccia
Amazing!
Starting with some CHDK knowledge they hacked the XTi/400D firmware and added the following features:

Spot metering

Intermediate and more ISO values : 80/100/125/160/200/250/320/400/500/640/800/1000/1250/1600/2000/2500/3200
(YES, ISO 3200 is here)

42 new AF pattern schemas

Tested on my 400D. IT WORKS!
They just started discovering and adding new features...

Follow the instructions and download the last build in the following link: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,3290.150.html

kclinton
I have to say, initial testing is very intriguing. ISO 80 & 3200 are also interesting. The spot meter is great, but i wonder what percentage its using versus the 9% of the Partial mode.
stein_andersen
I wonder if this is safe, and reversible. Hmmm.
kclinton
Yes and yes, so far I've had no trouble. And if you put in a CF card that
doesn't have the bootable MBR/ autoexec.bat file it will start up normally.
roger_smith4
Interesting. I wonder if there are any hacks for my 20D?
marco_ristuccia
Keith,
spot metering is 3% of the center area. I think it corresponds to the little square visible around the center AF point.
thanasis_siozos
I've installed it, works just fine, and the hack can show also the shutter actuation count (in a debug file saved in the CF card). Also the spot metering seems to be an even smaller area than the square around the central point. More like only the dot, I'd say.
Hard to believe Canon factory-crippled the camera by means of software switches.
