baris_john
I was looking for user reports on this lens but did not find much. Does anyone have first hand experience with the lens? Is it generally considered a good performer (or a better performer than the 28/2.8 SSC)?

I have used the later 28/2.0 new FD briefly and liked it, but I am looking for the breech lock version now.
User_502260
I have two 28/2.8 FD SCs and one 28/2 FD SSC. The f/2.8 is very light in weight and doesn't seem very substantial but it very sharp. The f/2 is a lot heavier and larger. It's excellent. The coating is very good and sharpness is good at any distance.

doug_nelson3
See http://zone-10.com/cmsm/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=10&id=57&Itemid=97
to compare the two. See also that site's test of the legendary Leica R 28mm f 2.8.
Like Jeff, I am a fan of the 28 f2.8 SC. Mine was $25 on the auction. Expect slightly, probably imperceptably better barrel distortion performance with the f2. I don't find distortion with the f 2.8 SC noticeable at all. If you don't mind the weight, by all means go for the brighter viewfinder picture of the f2 SSC. WIth 28's and wider, I use hyperfocal settings, anyway.
tony_lockerbie
I have both the 2.8 and the F2, both are stellar performers. I do however, use the 2.8 most of the time due to it's lighter weight. I can't see any difference in the sharpness of the two, and I very rarely shoot these wide angles at or near their max apertures, so the F2 stays in the cupboard most of the time.
barryreid
Used to have a BL 28/2, it was a good lens. The nFD 28/2.8 I have now seems no less capable, other than being slower.
