m._howard_edwards
Many tripod quick-release plates have a little spring-loaded pin next to the tripod screw. What is it 's purpose? I have a bunch of cameras, and none have a receptor of any kind that matches it. If it would engage in something, it sure would prevent the cameras from swivelling on the plates as they do. I have waited patiently for someone to ask and for someone to answer the question, and I have seen nothing yet.
franklin_polk
Some camercorders (mostly cheap, as far as I've seen) have a hole for that pin, so the camera cannot rotate on the plate when you move the head. I haven't seen any on still cameras.
Ed_Ingold
Pro video cameras have a pin slot too, but never DSLRs. The best way to keep a still camera from turning is with Arca-type QR plates, which are custom fitted to the camera.
