4490 warm up time

<p>In my decision regarding 4490 vs. V500, I've come to understand that the real pracical difference is bulb vs. LED, therefore warm up time. Question: Can someone give me a sense of the difference in warm-up time- seconds? Minute? And is the warm up time an issue only when making a first scan, or with each sequential scan (say one per minute for example). Thanks.</p>

<p>I have both scanners. I'd say the warm up difference is maybe 10 sec or a minute. See, not irritant enough to really notice. And yes, the warm up only applies to the first scan, and of a machine that's been brought up from cold start at that.</p>

<p>The 4490 and V500 are the same scanner. Epson probably switched to a LED light source in the V500 because it's less expensive (and maybe to meet environmental regulations of some sort.) The marketing folks then spun a practical inconsequentiality into something that they could charge a bit more money on. As a consumer, buy the less expensive of the two.</p>

<p>I have the 4490, and it's negligible. About a minute at most, and then it doesn't need to warm up again if you use it enough in a single session. Not like the old scanners that take a couple of minutes of whirring to get right with the heavens.</p>
