ron_serpico2
So the new Dell 2408WFP arrived. There are three cables, VGA, HDMI and DVI. Which (DVI or HDMI) should I use? Is it true that they are the same except that HDMI transmits audio also?

huperetes
You are correct. Both DVI and HDMI use the same TMDS encoding, except HDMI includes audio signal.
waltflanagan
While it is correct that DVI and HDMI share the same signaling I would use the DVI port. I have never had to adjust the overscan when using DVI. It is basically a 1 to 1 mapping. My experience with HDMI is that the display scales things and adjusts the overscan causing you to miss part of the picture. You can try it yourself.
villain1
You should always use DVI to computer monitors and HDMI to displays such as televisions or projectors (if DVI is not available for the projector). This will give you the best image quality for the specific monitor type.
