gen_b.
One of my clients (family member) is applying for a job as a cocktail waitress at some of the major Vegas casinos, and needs to include a 'headshot'.

The issue is that I'm not quite sure what style of a headshot would be appropriate. I try to abstain from traditional b/w chair-and-backdrop set-ups and prefer more creativity, but don't want to hurt her chances at getting the position or anything.

Would a nightclub/slow synch style be appropriate?
Or an outdoor portrait (maybe at night in front of Vegas lights, or during the day somewhere in the city)?
Or would a non-descript headshot exude more professionalism?

What do you all think? Opinions greatly appreciated.
mark_chartrand
Gen,

I would think they are after a well focused and well lit shot that shows the girl's face, make-up and hair at their best. I wouldn't think they would care what the background is. Just don't make it something that draws attention away the your subject. Bright Vegas lights in the background may not be a very good idea for a headshot.

Mark
allenahale
It is a job application - for a Cocktail Waitress position - not a modeling agency or casting agency. Most likely the photo is to be used in a background check.
How many days have her application been delayed awaiting your determination as to how to assist her with your creativity?
I would do her a favor, do right by her by swallowing my pride and taking a traditional chair - and -backdrop photo (B&W or color - up to you as long as it conforms to application requirement) so that she can move on with her application. I would then take some other shots at a later date when I had decided as to how to be creative.
