Information on used photo equipment meets

Recommended Posts

Where do you find information on shows where equipment can be seen, sold, traded or bought? Shutterbug magazine used to list many such shows in different parts of North America and sometimes Europe, but that has dwindled significantly. Newspaper classifieds are often overlooked. These are great places as well to meet other photographers and collectors, and some are fairly frequent occurences in the major cities (2 or 3 times per year).

The new Photo.Net calendar is a great idea but (to date) has no used equipment meet section. It may take some work to insure input and that may be a problem.

KEH does notify me when they are attending a show in my area. Other than that it tough to find out except through word of mouth. If one could find the host or hosts of these camera shows (may be regional or national) they should have a show announcement mailing list. I used to sell at this type of show (not camera related) and there were several organizations sponsoring, selling spaces and responsible for getting the word out.

Apparently Shutterbug still lists them online, I just Googled and found it.

Sam, thanks. I probably just noticed the 2 or 3 August meets in my last newstand Shutterbug purchase. The autumn listing looks more complete, but unfortunately the possible Canadian meets (Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver) have not been advertised there (most if not all of the prior spring meets didn't get mentioned in earlier issues). I also wonder how many smaller used equipment meets (some sponsred locally by photo clubs or other groups) fall through the cracks. Still, it would be nice if Photo.Net or another site would get area representatives to regularly input these shows as well as other events. Maybe individual interactions with the new Photo.Net calendar will be great enough in number to take care of such meets and other calendar events.
