starvy
as a cheap entry level kit it is the most popular out there. think twice about buying from cheap retailers though.
lex_jenkins
Those listings were too jumbled to be useful. Can't tell which specific kit you're interested in. But it's moot if they don't plan to actually sell what they advertise.

Regarding the resellerratings feedback for Pyxis, many of the positive comments smacked of shills. Sounded more like something they put up family, friends and co-workers to write to offset the complaints from actual customers.

Complete kits are rarely a good value. The practice dates back decades, long before I got into photography as a kid in the 1960s. Many of the included items - combo video/still tripod, bag, etc. - are junk. Same thing applied to beginners darkroom kits - entry level enlarger, trays, etc., and the "safelight" usually turned out to be a red light bulb, functional but not as practical as a safelight lamp with filter and replaceable bulbs. It looks impressive in ads but tends to be disappointing in reality.

Stick with a reputable vendor. There are plenty of 'em online: B&H, Adorama, KEH, Calumet, maybe a dozen others. Buy only what you really need. Most reputable vendors will offer certain kits and those are often good values, such as bundling a media card, AA NiMH batteries and charger, etc. Even the good dealers will occasionally suggest substituting good third party lenses from Sigma, Tamron or Tokina for the OEM lenses. Nothing wrong with that, sometimes the third party lenses are very good values and you get more for your money.

kathy_engel
I actually bought a Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens from Pyxis and was very pleased with the product, price and their service. I would feel comfortable doing business with them again.
rdjc
be careful buying from some of these sites they usually sell import models with little if any warranties, some of the import warranties you have to send overseas for service. The only online dealers I buy from are B&H and Adorama, excellent prices and good customer service. You might want to consider the Sony A700 dslr it's a great camera for $999.99 and add a decent lens for under $500.00 tamron 17-50 F.8 around $400.00 great combo. You'll be happy with the results. Always check reseller-ratings.com b/4 buying
