jack_welsh
Don't know if you want to just study the process or to actually make prints that way. But, I feel that these days it would be easier to obtain the materials to do a 3 color carbon print. It is similar in some ways. It uses a gelatin tissue that can create a relief image. As, that one blurb mentioned about the Dye-Transfer. It is a permament process. And, what some say about the Dye-Transfer, others have said about Carbon printing. I've only done monochrome carbons years ago. But, I could see what they meant with just a single color image. The pigments can be watercolors, inks, etc.
charlesheckel
There's also gum bichromate. Be warned--some of the old-fashioned chemicals are carcinogens, and it's easy to get sensitized to them. Neoprene gloves and goggles are a good idea. There are a number of modern processes using safer photosensitive materials, such as silk screen, photoresist plus etchant, and photopolymer films
