michaeljlawson
Hello Stephen. I would start with the "Learning" tab at the top of the page and choose your subject (in this case Macro). Here is the direct page link: http://www.photo.net/learn/macro/ , then let us know specifically what information you still need.
jackaldridge
Stephen,
Macro usually means taking close-ups that are 1 to 1 (where the image is the same size as the subject on the film plane or sensor) in size or larger.
Here's an example...
http://www.photo.net/photo/8530185
rona_frank
Hi Stephen,
Macro (Close-up) Pictures in which the subject is very close are called close-ups, or more traditionally macro. The typical icon symbolizing the macro mode is a flower, but don’t let that narrow your view of macro picture subjects. Macro pictures host any subject that happens to be closer than about 2 feet (1/2 meter). You may be asking, why 2 feet? Most digital cameras can’t focus on anything closer than about 2 feet without using the macro mode.
you can learn more about it on: http://lbguides.com/KnowHow/macro.html
and this site all so has a video guide: http://lbguides.com/cameras/canon/G10/scenes.html
best of luck
